LABFICC

The Laboratory of Fiction, Science and Culture was created by the researcher Thais Lassali and myself in 2016. From the very beginning our objective was to gather around researchers, students, artists and science communicators from different areas to think about and promote encounters between sciences, fiction and cultures. At first it worked almost as a Sci-Fi film society, but as we grow in members and projects we become indeed an experimental research/art group. We are now 10 permanent members, which includes anthropologists, journalists, artists, biologists, computer scientists and ecologists - all of us PhD students at University of Campinas.

Our biggest project to date was called “Thinking with fungi”. This project is at once an interdisciplinary research, a science communication platform and also an experimental art workshop with spore printing (check the collab section under art+). It also generated a art & science publication at the journal ClimaCom called "Mycelial Fabulations"
